drag queens and bling
sorry it's been awhile folks, i've been lost in the library going through all the old cassettes! gems waiting to be discovered, people...like the old sarah vaughn tapes, the coltrane recordings from '52...the self-help tapes "discover yourself as a performer"...i found this great device today at the saint vincent de paul...it was this box that opened up to contain a record player, a radio, and an 8-track player. it woulda so been mine if i had a prayer lifting it...and if i was settled, which i'm not.
but i've decided to look into moving to montreal in 12 months..same time frame, different city. i think it might just be a better fit than toronto, and my man seems more easily swayed to move there one day to have my babies..and it's a 7 hour train ride to NYC for $125, i could go every month.
so, what am i updating here? oh ya, last thursday, after i bought some killer fur boots (i've wanted fur boots for so long) i got the call from the jay jay to go check out the malaise/physik nite at the lounge of tokyo...i was also thinking about the poor boy's dilemma that vancity wasn't fun enough, so i told him i was taking him out and it was gonna be a surprise.
i shoulda been insulted because he replies with.."a surprise? ok, well, i don't really like bowling and i don't do stand up comedy"...what?! please, i'm way funner than that, fool!
so he comes to scoop me up in not just any suv, but a red cadillac escalade with custom black leather interior with red piping, and black louis vuitton decor, it's lowered, all pimped out with dvd player, and i still have to climb to get inside. i'm kinda floored by the whole thing, as we all know my disdain for such vehicles...(the excess! the fact that the whole thing is the size of my apartment, not to mention the nearing 20 year war that's gone on to support fueling the damn things) and it's not subtle...everywhere we go...so much attention.
but we compromise as i take him to the dufferin for miss adrienne's show..it's been a couple months since i've been, and i missed mandy. she wasn't there that nite, but there was some cece peniston and dance mix tamia for all, as well as miss adrienne doing julie andrews and a visitor doing jann arden. yippee canadienne content..last time it was anne murray...
on to the tokyo, where we hung out for awhile and the music was good...leanin' back to some reggae vibes, playing the faves..tanto metro and devonte, buju...it was nice.
then, we had to be adults and go home to get up early the next day, so our evening of shared interests and compromises and shirley temples was closed by 1am.
i'm gonna see common tomorrow and probably sekoya the nite after..yippie. all4now.
